One of the most problematic languages is Spanish. The table below shows the different Names and codes used for Spanish. It does not even take into account TMS codes. On top of this, there are well argued discussions on internet forums who add Modern Sort to the mix.

The table shows that even within the RWS world there are inconsistencies:

  • MultiTerm creates Spanish (International sort) = ES-EM and Spanish (International) = ES-INT-SDL
  • but the RWS Map lists Spanish (Spain, International sort) = ES-EM  Spanish (International) = ES-EM

The fact that MultiTerm distinguishes (International Sort) and (International) suggest that they are different things. But what is international Spanish? And what is modern? Nobody seems to know, not even the Developers in the Studio Team.
